The inspection team led by U Kyaw Soe and U Tin Aung, Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), inspected Twantay Myoma Police Lock-up and Mibagon Home for the Aged in Twantay Township, Yangon Region, yesterday in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.
While inspecting the Twantay Myoma Police Lock-up, the MNHRC team inspected the conditions of detainees during the remand period, including whether any torture occurred during investigation and there were opportunities to meet family members as well as the provision of food and drinking water, the handling of sewage, and the overall cleanliness of the facilities.
The inspection team inspected the Mibagon Home for the Aged under the MNHRC Law and procedures to find out whether the residents were enjoying fundamental rights including health services, appropriate food, purified drinking water, right to freedom of religion, adequate dormitories and arrangements for leisure.
The MNHRC inspection team will inform the relevant department under the MNHRC Law its findings and recommendations for the necessary actions.
