Due to the increased number of pilgrims visiting the Great Shwedagon Pagoda, the opening hours will be extended from 4 am to 10 pm every day starting from 21 June, according to U Bo Thin, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Previously, the pagoda was open from 5 am to 9 pm on 1 January due to the growing number of visitors.

“Given the increasing number of pilgrims from across the country, the opening hours will be extended from 4 am to 10 pm. On weekdays, the Shwedagon Pagoda sees about 20,000 pilgrims, but this number rises to between 40,000 and 50,000 on weekends. Around 280 CCTV cameras have been installed at the pagoda to ensure that pilgrims can pay homage peacefully,” said U Bo Thin.

The Shwedagon Pagoda will also extend its opening hours on Maha Samaya Day, which falls on 21 June (the full moon day of Nayon).
