The Committee on Preventing Grave Violence against Children in Armed Conflicts held its 7th coordination meeting via video conferencing yesterday morning.

The work committee members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of the Office of the Union Government, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Sports, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Union Attorney-General’s Office and Myanmar Red Cross Society attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Permanent Secretary U Soe Han, in his capacity as Chairperson of working committee said that President’s Office has approved National Action Plan (2020-2021) in relation to prevention of death, injury and sexual harassment against children during armed conflicts on 10 August 2020 and it needs to implement the10 procedures in that plan.

It needs to release information for the people to know that the government drafts such national pan to prevent child casualties and sexual violence in armed conflicts and it also needs to form working committees for the implementation of the activities included in the action plan.

Then, Director-General of the Department of Rehabilitation U Win Naing Tun, in his capacity as Secretary of working committee briefed the activities based on decisions of 6th working committee meeting, phone operator courses under the Multi Year Work Plan which is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and UNICEF, educative programmes by using IEC Materials, plans to conduct workshops, organizing committees for monitoring and assessment and drafting duties and the attendees gave suggestions on future functions.

The government formed “Committee on Preventing Grave Violence against Children in Armed Conflicts” on 7 January 2019.
