1. Children are the future bearers of the national responsibilities. The progress of a country heavily depends on the educational development of the children. Denying children’s right to education affects both the children themselves and the nation’s future.

2. The right to education is a fundamental right for children. Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, “Everyone has the right to education.” Additionally, Article 366 (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (2008) stipulates that “Every citizen, in accord with the educational policy laid down by the Union, has the right to education.” A comprehensive education system that ensures access to education for all school-age children is being systematically promoted, beginning with basic education.

3. The current period marks the school enrollment week for the 2024-2025 academic year. Every school-age child, inclusive of those with disabilities and those who have lost their right to education for various reasons, should not be left behind. The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission strongly urges parents, legal guardians, family members, and stakeholders to prioritize the best interests of the children and make every effort to ensure their enrollment on time.
