THE Ministry of Commerce held a coordination meeting for the construction of a two-lane highway between the Dawei Special Economic Zone and the Myanmar-Thailand border town of Hteekhee yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw.

Myanmar and NEDA (Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency) of Thailand are cooperating on the highway project as part of the Dawei SEZ development.

Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint, in his capacity as the Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee Chairman, delivered the opening speech at the meeting.

The meeting discussed the progress on negotiation with NEDA for the construction of the highway and for the loan approved by Pyidaungsu Hluttaw to be received from Thailand, the implementation progress on the environmental investigation to build the highway and further process.

The Deputy Minister for Construction, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Commerce, Directors-General and other officials participated in the meeting.
