UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, illegal trade is effectively prevented and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

On 22 February, combined teams under the management of the Customs Department confiscated 3,771.36 square metres of RIALTO Porcelain Tile (estimated value of K39,599,280) from three containers at Myanmar Industrial Port and 3,500 kilogrammes of plastic packing foil printed for soft drink (estimated value of K39,837,000) at the Asia World Port, and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.

In addition, on 22 February, the combined teams under the management of the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted an inspection near the Kyaukse detour and seized a Mitsubishi Fuso truck and a Hino Profia truck, valued K65 million carrying 27,500 kilogrammes of Chinese garlic (estimated value of K44 million) and a Hino truck and an Isuzu Giga truck carrying four kinds of goods (estimated value of K46.306 million), including 653 kilogrammes of polyester cotton fabric, near the Myitnge toll-gate, and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.

In addition, on 23 February, the combined teams also conducted inspections under the management of the Yangon Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force seized a Yutong bus that entered the Aung Mingala Highway Bus Terminal, carrying nine kinds of goods (estimated value of K112.152 million), including 408 bottles of Sir Edward’s whiskey, 150 bottles of Ostonil tablets, 500 cartons of Napoli cigarettes and 14,040 bottles of Lactosoy soy milk, and six kinds of goods (estimated value of K25.95 million), including 1,896 cans of Maximus Beer, at a warehouse in Ward No.1 of Shwepyitha Township, and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.

Therefore, on 22 and 23 February, a total of 16 illegal trade cases (estimated value of K465.845 million) were seized, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
