THE Scrutiny Committee on Formation of Myanmar Government Designated Entity (GDE) Consortium to implement the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone conducted its first-ever coordination meeting at the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister for Commerce U Min Min presented that the special economic zones are essential for the economic development of Myanmar and the regional countries.

He also highlighted that the successful implementation of the Kyaukpyu Deep-Sea Port Project plays a key role in the development of Myanmar; both local companies from Rakhine State and other experienced companies owned by Myanmar citizens that have the capabilities to operate the project effectively will all be invited, and the collaborations will be formulated in the form of Project Company. He added that through the State-owned newspapers, Myanma Alinn and The Mirror, invitations have already made for the interested proposals for the formation of the Myanmar GDE Consortium.

Attendees at the meeting discussed the detailed plans to scrutinize the proposals of Myanmar companies systematically by collaboration between the relevant departments as per the established policies, rules, and procedures.
