UNION Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, together with Director-General U Ye Tun Oo of the Immigration Department and Director-General U Min Hein of the Electronic Registration System Department departed yesterday for Beijing, China, to enhance cooperation in immigration and the eID system operation between China and Myanmar.

Upon arriving at Bai Yun International Airport in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, they were welcomed by Ms Zhao Hui, Deputy Director-General of the Guangzhou Immigration and Inspection Department, to discuss regional immigration and inspection matters for inbound and outbound migrants.

Subsequently, the delegation reached Beijing International Airport, where they were greeted by officials from the Myanmar Embassy and the Ministry of Public Security of China.

On 18 September, the Union minister and delegation met the Deputy Minister of the National Immigration Agency (NIA). During the meeting, the deputy minister expressed China’s support for Myanmar’s immigration policies and discussed border protection, law enforcement cooperation, and orderly entry/exit processes along the China-Myanmar border.

The Union minister also highlighted Myanmar’s upcoming trial census in October 2023 and the nationwide census planned for 2024, seeking China’s cooperation in implementing the eID system. Both sides discussed immigration policies, prevention of illegal entry/exit at the border posts, and conditions for closer cooperation.

After the meeting, souvenirs were exchanged, and a luncheon was hosted by Deputy Minister Mr Xu Ganlu. The delegation then visited the Research Department 1 under the Ministry of Public Security in Beijing, where they learned about security technology activities. The department’s operations, including security equipment production and national identity card issuance, were explained, and the Union minister addressed queries and presented souvenirs to officials.
