OVER K420 million worth of 5.3 tonnes of prohibited chemicals (caffeine), that were illegally imported, were captured in the Mekong River in Tachilek, Shan State (East), according to the Myanmar Police Force.

Acting on a tip-off, a combined team consisting of members of the Anti-Drug Police Force seized a total of 5.3 tonnes of restricted chemicals (caffeine) worth more than K420 million from a motorboat, which was owned by U Nan Uam and was docked next to Mekong River between Samphuu village and Namphone village in Tachilek township at 11 am on 14 July.

Police have taken legal action against offenders and an investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators of the crime chain.
