THE Lancang-Mekong Cooperation’s dialogue on non-traditional security cooperation took place in Yangon on 14 July. During the event, Mr Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, delivered a speech emphasizing the ongoing threats posed by non-conventional security matters to human survival and development. He highlighted that in response to the complex and evolving international security landscape, President Xi Jinping proposed a global security initiative to address security challenges and fulfil international security needs. China’s commitment to promoting security for all has received widespread acclaim and active responses from the international community.
Ambassador Mr Chen Hai mentioned that the six Lancang-Mekong countries have established a test zone for a global security proposal, which focuses on combatting terrorism, online gambling, and communication fraud, and addressing non-traditional security concerns like human trafficking. Effective cooperation has been fostered in these areas.
The meeting was organized by the Myanmar Strategic and International Studies (MISIS) and attended by U Kyaw Myo Htut, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Thant Kyaw, Chair of MISIS, diplomatic representatives from Lancang-Mekong countries based in Myanmar, and a panel of experts.
