MYANMAR Media Development Group (MMDG) organized its first coordination meeting at the meeting hall of the Printing and Publishing Department in Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint, in his capacity as Chairman of MMDG said the media censorship was abolished in 2012 for media development. The Printing and Publishing Law was enacted in 2014 and it abolished the 1962 Printers and Publishers Registration Law. Therefore, the News Media Law was amended and enacted in 2014 and Myanmar Press Council was organized. Similarly, the censorship policies in Motion Picture Law were also eased focusing on State stability, unity among ethnic people, conservation of national culture and elimination of brutal and inappropriate scenes.
He added that it also held talks and discussions with local and foreign organizations for media development and the media sector grabbed proper achievement to a certain extent. Currently, the government establishes a Media Development Department under the Ministry of Information as well as the Myanmar Media Development Group recently.
Then, U Myo Myint Maung, Secretary of MMDG and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and the participants coordinated the discussion.
