UNION Information Minister U Maung Maung Ohn left Yangon yesterday morning to attend the 18th Asia Media Summit that is to be held in Bali, Indonesia.
The meeting was organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development-AIBD, an international broadcasting media development organization established in 1977 under the supervision and support of UNESCO, ITU and UNDP.
It aims at enhancing the roles and capacities of broadcasting media in modern-day nation-building and development, the development of local and regional TV broadcasting media, the preservation and protection of traditional cultures and customs among countries in the region, adherence to professional and ethical standards, promotion and protection of the role of public TV broadcasting media, and systematic and supportive participation of social media in the sustainable media development. The annual summit will be held from 23 to 25 May.
AIBD has 43 broadcasting organizations, including MRTV, from 26 full-fledged member countries including Myanmar and 50 affiliated broadcasting members. A total of 93 broadcasting organizations from 46 countries and regions are members. AIBD is in partnership with more than 50 TV broadcasting media institutions from Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, Arab countries and North America.
At this meeting, AIBD’s annual activities and projects will be reviewed. It will also discuss the needs of the member countries in the development of media and the future programmes for training and projects to be undertaken.
AIBD member countries and their TV broadcasting organizations, partner organizations, and other invitees in addition to ministers, deputy ministers, broadcast media personnel and CEOs from respective member countries will attend the summit.
Union Information Minister U Maung Maung Ohn was accompanied by MRTV Director-General U Ye Naing, Deputy Director-General U Zeya, Deputy Director U Han Win Aung and Myanmar Press Council Member U Aye Chan.
