VENERABLE Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rat­tha Guru Abhidhaja Agg Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Saddhiya, State Ovadacariya Sayadaw, Presid­ing Nayaka of Ponnya Nein­mitayama Shwethuwun Mon­astery in Kyeepwayay Ward of Thingangyun Township in Yan­gon Region, passed away at 1:40 am on 21 May 2022, Saturday.

Chairman of the State Ad­ministration Council Prime Min­ister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla paid homage to the remains of the venerable Sayadaw yes­terday afternoon.

First, the Senior General paid homage to Ovadacariya Sayadaws of the Final Rites Organizing Committee led by Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Ketumala, Abbot of Dhamma Rekkhita Wuntho Monastery in Myitkyina, Secretary of Kachin State Sangha Nayaka Commit­tee, supplicated preparations to hold the final rites of the vener­able Sayadaw and fulfilled the needs. Then, he donated alms to the Abbot of Dhamma Rekkhita Wuntho Monastery.

The Senior General pre­sented a cash donation for hold­ing the final rites of the ven­erable Sayadaw to the Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture.

Next, the Senior General, wife and party paid homage to the remains of venerable Shwethuwun Sayadaw.

Venerable Shwethuwun Sayadaw was born of U Htwe and Daw Hnin Aye in Aung­chantha (Khanbe) Village in Wundwin Township in Meiktila District on 11th Waxing of Nad­aw, 1300 ME. He was the eldest among six siblings. He learned education from Hmankyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kundala of the village and was initiated into novice in 1311 ME and ordained in 1319 under the auspices of Yayle Monastery Sayadaw in Myittha. He passed the reli­gious examinations yearly. In his novicehood, he passed the Dhammacariya lecturer exam in 1319 ME, and the novice was offered the Sasanadhaja Siripavara Dhammacariya ti­tle by President U Win Maung.

He obtained an Acariya degree in 1982 at Nalanda Postgradu­ate School under Darbhanga University of Bihar State of In­dia and MA Buddhist Study at Magadh University in 1986. The venerable Sayadaw was offered Agga Maha Saddhamma Joti­ka title by the government in 1997, Agga Maha Pandita title in 2007, Doctor of Letters in 2017, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru title in 2019 and Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika title in 2021.
