UNDER the Agriculture Income Improvement Project – AIIP), more than 200 acres of experimental and developed plots were cultivated in three districts of the Sagaing region in the 2020-2021 financial year during the winter and summer crops season, said Daw Moe Hme Tin, in charge of AIIP project, Sagaing Region Agriculture Department. In the 2020-21FY cultivating season, a total of 202.419 acres, including 58.369 acres of winter crops, developed plot and 2.31 acres of experimental plot and, 137.24 acres of summer crops developed plot and 4.5 acres of the experimental plot were cultivated in nine townships from three districts. Those were cultivated from the first week of November 2020 to the third week of April 2021. “AIIP project is being implemented in three districts: Monywa, Shwebo and Kanbalu. We have cultivated over 200 acres of crops such as peanut, corn, lablab purpureus, onion, chickpea and red phaseolus in winter and summer crops season on an experimental basis and a developed basis. Now, we are growing the crops as an experimental plot and a developed plot in the monsoon season,” said Daw Moe Hme Tin. Under the AIIP project, paddy, sesame, peanut, corn, lablab purpureus, onion, chickpea, red phaseolus and green gram were grown in the 2020-21FY winter and summer crops season. Those crops were developed in Shwebo, Wetlet, Khin-U, YeU, Taze and Tabayin townships in Shwebo district, Monywa, Budalin and Ahyadaw townships in Monywa district and, Kanbalu township in Kanbalu district. Three sectors_promoting agricultural awareness, giving agricultural awareness and promoting market empowerment, upgrading and constructing of township offices and technology dissemination centres are being implemented in the Sagaing region with an aim to develop agricultural income of the rural areas within the project area. AIIP project is being implemented in nine townships of three districts in the Sagaing region with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency-JICA. Parts of the project have started since 2018-2019 FY by Agriculture Department, Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department (WRUD), Agricultural Mechanization Department, Agriculture Land Management and Statistics Department and Rural Road Department.
