OFFICIALS from Myanmar and Laos held a meeting at Wanbon Port in Maing Phone (A) Village-Tract, Tachilek Township, Shan State (East) yesterday morning and discussed the repatriation process for over 400 Myanmar migrant workers who are facing difficulties in Laos.
With the supervision of Wasipit Sayadaw in Kengtung, necessary processes for the convenient repatriation of the Myanmar workers were also discussed.
U Ye Naing, Chairman of the State Administrative Branch (Shan East), Colonel Min Min Tun, Commander-in-Chief of the Tactical Team (Settlement) Tachilek, and U Myint Naing, Chairman of Tachilek District Administration Committee and members, members of the Urban Development Support Group and officials from Laos attended the meeting.
“The returnees will be repatriated in two batches on 30 July and 1 August. At present, there are more than 450 returnees, and the returnees who are still facing difficulties will be repatriated and sent to their respective regions and states,” officials said.
“Arrangements have been made for health check-ups for the returnees and arrangements for quarantine centres to keep patients infected with the Covid-19 virus.
“Vehicles are also planned to repatriate Covid-19 negative people immediately,” officials added.
