UNION  Minister  for  Health  and Sports Dr Thet Khaing Win met the rectors, professors and officials  from  the  medical  and  relevant universities in order to discuss  opening  postgraduate/undergraduate  courses  yesterday morning in Yangon.

At the meeting, the Union Minister appreciated the efforts of the respective professors and those in charge of hospital wards.  He said if healthcare cannot be resumed, it will affect people’s health, increasing personal expenditure for healthcare expenses.

He  said  the  death  rate  of  children  under  five  would  increase  in  the  coming  years  if  regular  immunization  services  for children are not implemented. He added that those who are social bullying the medical staff returning to work would be taken legal action.

Regarding  the  reopening  of the postgraduate courses, he said the students would need to have 90 per cent attendance, and application  deadlines  for  postgraduate  studies  for  assistant  doctors have been extended. The ministry  would  release  health  workers charged under Section 505-A of the Penal Code according  to  guidelines  issued  by  the  State  Administration  Council  and return them to work, he said.

Afterwards,   the   Union   Minister  met  officials  from  the  Public Health Department and instructed necessary matters relating to COVID-19 disease prevention, control and treatment, preventive measures against any possible  importation  of  the  virus from neighbouring countries into Myanmar, treatment to the COVID-19  patients  at  Waibargi  Hospital and Phaungyi hospital and  effective  contact  tracing,  COVID-19  diagnostic  services,  coordination  with  the  Yangon  Region  Administration  Council  in  order  to  expand  quarantine  centres  and  closely  monitor  the  activities  of  the  Township  Health/Public  Health  Departments.
