The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation chaired a meeting via videoconferencing to discuss the works on environmental, forest and mining sectors yesterday evening in Nay Pyi Taw.
Union Minister U Ohn Win, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Myanmar Lee Sang-hwa, Deputy Minister Dr Ye Myint Swe, the Permanent Secretary, the Directors-General for Forestry Department, Mining Department, Environmental Conservation Department and Mineral Exploration Department participated in the meeting.
The meeting discussed the activities of Hmawby Regional Training School established in collaboration with the Asia Forestry Cooperation Group; completion of mangrove plantation in Kawhmu Township; plans for the opening of the Mekong-Korea Biodiversity Centre in Nay Pyi Taw agreed upon at the first Mekong-Korea Leaders’ Summit; working activities of Khakaborazi Diversity Research Centre in Putao; conditions for the establishment and implementation of a botanical garden and orchard near RETC in Hmawbi; publishing a handbook of 53 species of forest trees in Bago Yoma and a handbook on 100 species of Myanmar medicinal plants, in collaboration with the Korean National Arboretum; plans to sign and implement a joint agreement to reduce and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The meeting also discussed proposals to hold the annual Deputy Ministerial Meeting on Environment between the two countries this year; the distribution of fuel-efficient stoves in 1,109 villages in the dry zone and future activities in collaboration with the Korea Centre for Climate Change; the completion of chromite ore resource estimation research conducted upon the research agreement signed between the Korean Department of Geological and Mineral Resources and the Myanmar’s Department of Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration in Chin State, and plans to carry out lithium mining research in Mandalay Region and further cooperation for research and forecasting of rare and valuable mineral resources.
