THE Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation held a coordination meeting at its headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday to discuss response plans to alleviate the impacts of coronavirus disease on the fishery sector.
Union Minister Dr Aung Thu talked about the implementation of government-to-government programmes for exporting fishery products.
The ministry is cooperating with relevant departments and Myanmar Fisheries Federation on issuing coronavirus clearance certificates to the fish produced in Myanmar.
It is necessary to set standards for issuance of recommendations made in Yangon and Mandalay and conduct rounds of capacity- building training for employees and education programmes at cold storage factories, he added.
Director-General of Fisheries Department U Wai Lin Maung discussed the decisions made at the development of fish consumption meeting. Director-General of Cooperative Department U Aung Thura discussed trading of fishery products.
Attendees at the meeting discussed matters relating to the development of fish consumption, works jointly to be done by Fisheries Department and Cooperative Department, searching of the fish market, conducting awareness programmes on health benefits of fish and creating local fish markets.
Fishery products are being distributed in accordance with “No Profit, No Loss” practice and sales of fish outside relevant regions and states is underway.
Deputy Minister U Hla Kyaw, Permanent Secretary U Kyaw Min Oo, the Directors-General and officials participated in the meeting.
Fisheries Department formed a Task Force on Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP) in 2016, organized 111 seminars on GAqP participated by 5,000 trainees and workshops on GAqP, and also issued 10 GAqP certificates for 9,364 acres of fish, prawn and crab farming.
A draft of GAqP standards was also drawn up in cooperation with MySap Project.
Laboratory of Fishery Department has ISO: IEC-17025 and was testing the fishery products that will be exported.
The department is also working on emerging of private laboratories for testing fishery products.
