Vice-President U Henry Van Thio inspected the construction site of the Attayan Bridge (Sabel Gu) over the Attayan River on the Kyaikmaraw-Sabel Gu-Kawtpanaw Road in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State yesterday.

The Vice-President, together with Union Minister Dr Aung Thu, Deputy Ministers U Tin Myint, Maj-Gen Soe Tint Naing and Rear-Admiral Myint Nwe and officials, came to Mawlamyine in Mon State from Myeik in Taninthayi Region by helicopter.

During the bridge inspection tour, Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan, State ministers and officials accompanied the Vice-President.

Deputy Director (Civil) U Zaw Moe Lwin explained the construction of the Attayan Bridge (Sabel Gu) at the briefing hall of the bridge construction site.

The Vice-President gave guidance on planting shady trees on both sides of the road at the foot of the bridge and maintaining the bridge for durability.

The bridge located three miles east of Kyaikmaraw Town is 2,113 feet and 2 inches long and 34 feet and 6 inches wide. It has a motorway of 23 feet and 7 inches wide; its vertical clearance is 46 feet; its horizontal clearance is 360 feet.

Construction of the bridge began on 30 December 2018, and it was completed on 30 September 2020. It costs K18 billion.

Local people from 97 villages on the east side of the Attayan River took a long time to go to Kyaikmaraw in the past. Completing the bridge would improve transport as well as promote the development of the social, economic, health, education sectors and improve commodity flow.

The Vice-President and party arrived back in Nay Pyi Taw from Mawlamyine in the evening by helicopter.
