THE People’s Republic of China donated yuan250,000 worth of COVID-19 medical supplies to the Ministry of Health and Sports yesterday afternoon.

The medical supplies were some of the yuan3 million worth of donations pledged by Chinese Councilor and Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi during his recent two-day official visit to Myanmar.

The first batch of donation items was carried by his special flight.

The handover of medical supplies was made at the headquarters of MoHS in Nay Pyi Taw in the presence of Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein, Permanent Secretary Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win, Director-General Dr Soe Oo from the Public Health and Medical Services Department, Deputy Director-General Dr Kyaw Khaing, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai and officials.

At the donation ceremony, the ambassador reaffirmed the commitment of China to continue a community of shared future, mutual assistance in COVID-19 fight, maintaining friendly bilateral relations, the priority of Chinese President to help in the peacemaking process of the country, promoting bilateral businesses, and donation of 300,000 units of COVID-19 vaccines to Myanmar. China is also providing assistance to Myanmar to establish the Centre for Disease Control, Training and Research.

Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe expressed the appreciation on the latest donation as China is cooperating in healthcare sectors in remote areas of Myanmar, research works, assistance in H1N1 disease outbreak, sharing control and medical treatment amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation items handed over at the event were 100,000 masks, 30,000 N95 masks and 2,000 PPE sets.
