The Ministry of Education held a coordination meeting on the draft of National Education Strategic Plan (NESP) (2021-2030) via videoconferencing in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The meeting was attended by the monastic schools Sayadaws including Phaung Daw Oo Sayadaw and IBEC Sayadaw, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Deputy Minister U Win Maw Tun, the Permanent Secretary and Directors-General of Education, the Directors-General and officials of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the officials and representatives of Shwe Minn Tha Foundation (Myanmar), Myanmar Special Education Association and Educational Association for the people with disabilities.

During the meeting, Union Minister stressed the important role of a global citizen culture and learning culture, lifelong learning opportunities for everyone if they can basically read, write and calculate, the monastic education system of the Sayadaws which delivers education to the children, people, novices, nuns and monks, efforts of the ministry to create multiple learning opportunities for the average people, people with disabilities, people from city or rural areas regardless of poor or rich, cooperation and collaboration culture, discussion culture, research culture and the establishment of Industry 1.0 and Education 1.0 to Industry 4.0 and Education 4.0.

The Union Minister also emphasized the perfect life of public with the development of education rather than industrial development, distribution of KG+12 school textbooks for free, training for teachers, assessment, priority sectors for ethnic areas, the increase of the numbers of students who complete primary, middle and high schools education and more than 1 million high school students for the first time in 2018-2019 academic year.

He then said there are a total of 9,716,373 students (primary, middle, high schools), 315,944 monastic school students and 261,922 private school students in 2019-2020 academic year.

The ministry provided K794.4 million for the development of monastic schools, K91.27 million for 1,431 visual and hearing-impaired students. There were 566,247 students who received high school completion certificates in 2020.

Then, Permanent Secretary of Education Dr Zaw Myint briefed the drawing up of NESP (2021-2030) while Director-General for Basic Education U Ko Lay Win presented about Chapter (5) of NESP (2021-2030) and other officials about Chapter (6) and Chapter (7) of NESP (2021-2030).

The attendees to the meeting openly coordinated the meeting.
