The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture held a presentation on the completion of the upgrade of National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) and National Library (Yangon) into e-library which is being carried out with the capital expenditure of the 2019-2020FY of the Department of Historical Research and National Library on 11 December.
The event was attended by Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko, Deputy Minister U Kyi Min, Director-General for Department of Historical Research and National Library U Aung Myint, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General, Directors and officials of Lantro (Myanmar) company.
Director-General U Aung Myint presented the upgrade of libraries services and e-Library connectivity for National Libraries in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon. Managing Director for Lantro (Myanmar) Company U Zaw Myint Oo and other officials briefed the completion of upgrading works.
Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko said the connectivity with Shan State Buddhist University and the University of Computer Studies (Pakokku) is useful as Union Catalogue, and for the first priority, it should be for the National Library (Yangon), the second priority will be for the libraries of local universities and colleges while the third priority is for international libraries.
It also needs to make efforts for the Yezin Agriculture University, the University of Veterinary Science and the University of Forestry in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Union Minister also discussed to provide the necessary arts, science and technological books and papers by connecting with the Technological Universities and Arts and Science Universities by cooperating with the relevant ministries, important role of libraries especially for the experts to do their researches, local and foreign basic and advanced training including postgraduate courses for the library staff, better library services, cooperation works for the libraries to become the places where produce plenty of experts in science, arts and technology.
He stressed the awareness programmes regarding with the establishment of e-library at National Library for the other universities and libraries, plans to brief the services of e-library by inviting the librarians of universities and colleges and efforts to make the better libraries including National Library (Yangon) to provide the needs of the basic, middle, high schools students, university and college students by connecting with the international libraries.
Then, the officials of Lantro (Myanmar) Company presented the services of National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) including Digital Signage, Smart Wall, Data Centre, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), e-Resource, RFID Gate, Self-check machine and the Union Minister concluded the meeting.
