Ahigh-level Myanmar delegation led by President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, currently in Thailand at the invitation of Prime Minister of Thailand Mr Anutin Charnvirakul, paid homage to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, situated within the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok, yesterday.

Upon arrival at the Grand Palace, the President and his accompanying delegation were warmly welcomed by senior Thai officials. They then toured the Grand Palace grounds, where responsible officials briefed them on the history and significance of the Royal Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

The President offered flowers to the Sacred Buddha Image inside the temple. He also presented a marble replica of the Maravijaya Buddha Image and made a monetary donation for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The temple authorities accepted the donations and presented Dhamma gifts in return.

The President and his entourage circumambulated the temple clockwise. During the visit, officials explained the history of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and its religious buildings, after which the President sought further information through discussions with the officials.

The President and delegation members also visited the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall within the Grand Palace grounds, where they laid a wreath in memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother of Thailand, and donated a marble replica of the Maravijaya Buddha Image.

They also visited the Piman Rattaya Throne Hall, where they laid a wreath in tribute to Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the King’s eldest daughter, before presenting a marble replica of the Maravijaya Buddha Image as a commemorative donation. The President also signed the condolence book during the visit.
