The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is striving to ensure that the public can use electricity and energy without concern.
Among the projects launched by the government to boost electricity generation, several face delays due to disruptions, obstructions, and acts of vandalism, leaving authorities able to meet only about 70 per cent of current public demand. Concurrently, electricity consumption grows by 15 per cent annually, worsening the imbalance between supply and demand.
About 3.5 per cent of generated electricity is consumed by power plants and substations, while about 4.5 per cent is naturally lost along the long-distance transmission lines, and about eight per cent of generated electricity is reduced when reaching users.
Additionally, targeted attacks on energy infrastructure have crippled key power generation sources, substations, and main transmission lines. Because these facilities cannot operate at full capacity, the remaining network must handle excessive power loads, forcing the national grid to operate under high technical risks to maintain public supply.
