The first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw continued its fifth day of meetings at the Pyithu Hluttaw convention hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, with 368 of 372 Pyithu Hluttaw representatives in attendance.
The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw stated that the Hluttaw has recorded congratulatory messages sent on his election as Speaker by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China on 17 March; the Chairperson of the Belaya Rus Party of the Republic of Belarus on 17 March; the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on 19 March; the Minister of the International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on 23 March; and the Vice-Chairman of the Russia-Myanmar Association for Friendship and Cooperation on 23 March, and that during the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw, 21 observers from political parties and five members of the public attended the session as observers.
Then, in his opening remarks, the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives) stated that the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw commenced on 16 March 2026 and would conclude on 8 April. He further noted that the Hluttaw is a place where representatives are granted the privilege of serving the people. He added that throughout the Hluttaw building, the following mottos are displayed in various locations: “The People’s Voice, the Hluttaw’s Voice; the People’s Will, the Hluttaw’s Will; the People’s Expectations, implemented by the Hluttaw”.
The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw stated that, during the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw, representatives — acting on behalf of the citizens who elected them — had successfully elected and confirmed the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, the President, the Vice-Presidents, the Union Government, and Union-level organizations. Consequently, the primary responsibilities of the Hluttaw had been accomplished within a short period. The Pyithu Hluttaw expressed its gratitude and took great pride in recording these achievements for both Hluttaw representatives and all citizens.
The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw stated that, during the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw, representatives – acting on behalf of the citizens who elected them – had successfully elected and confirmed the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, the President, the Vice-Presidents, the Union Government, and Union-level organizations, thereby accomplishing the Hluttaw’s primary responsibilities within a short period, for which the Pyithu Hluttaw expressed its gratitude and pride, while also emphasizing the need to carry out duties and responsibilities with genuine goodwill and redoubled efforts to ensure the continuous development and stability of the people’s socioeconomic well-being.
The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw stated that, as representatives of the legislative pillar, one of the nation’s key pillars, they must ensure that their duties and authority align with existing laws, rules, procedures, and directives, dedicating their spare time to studying legal matters, and, as elected representatives of the citizens, he trusts and expects them to work with foresight and in accordance with the law on issues concerning their constituencies, the citizens within them, and the nation as a whole, urging them to strive to become “benevolent heroes” who fulfil the needs and aspirations of the people.
The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw concluded his remarks by extending his best wishes for health and happiness to all during the upcoming Myanmar New Year of 1388 and expressing his hope to meet all the representatives again in good health and spirits at the second regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw.
Subsequently, the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw informed that the fifth day of the first regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw had concluded and officially announced the successful completion of the session before adjourning the meeting.
