THE 7th Myanmar-India Trade Joint Committee meeting was held virtually yesterday afternoon.

The meeting was co-chaired by Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint and Indian Minister Mr Piyush Goyal for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Railways, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

The Union Minister Dr Than Myint firstly discussed the improvement of bilateral trade, investment, agriculture, textile, transport and banking industries via Myanmar-India Trade Joint Committee meeting, cooperation to overcome the economic crisis during COVID-19 pandemic, good results of the meeting which will be the firm base to explore potential collaboration and to promote the bilateral trade and close cooperation with India to promote the trade volume and other sectors of each country.

Then, Indian Minister Mr Piyush Goyal highlighted further cooperation to promote the bilateral sea routes and border trade, close cooperation between MyanTrade and India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Indian investment in Myanmar, further aids in road/bridge projects for the development of infrastructure, technical assistance for sustainable development of Myanmar for being a good neighbouring country and the bilateral trade growth by cooperating in investment and other sectors including trade sector.

Director-General U Min Min also briefed the matters discussed during the senior officials meeting held on 16 October such as to increase the bilateral trade volume including beans and pulses, smooth flow of goods, more Indian investment in Myanmar including power and energy sector, promotion of bilateral trade by holding trade expos and economic forums, the opening of markets at border areas after solving Myanmar-India border issues, greater cooperation with India to expand the market for Myanmar's textile sector, technical assistance of India in agriculture and livestock sectors, upgrade of road/bridge projects on Myanmar-India trade route for the speedy flow of goods with the help of India, close cooperation in the banking industry of two countries and further cooperation of India to review the ASEAN India Trade in Goods Agreement and to explore the potential sectors for bilateral trade growth.

Then, the two Ministers coordindated the meeting and called on the close cooperation between the two nations based on the strong friendship as neighbouring countries.

The 8th Myanmar-India Trade Joint Committee meeting will be held in New Deli of India in the coming year.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo, Myanmar Ambassador to India U Moe Kyaw Aung, the Permanent Secretary, the Directors-General and India Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Saurabh Kumar and other representatives of relevant ministries of two countries.
