The launching ceremony of the Second Phase of the Mekong-Lancang Science and Technology Cooperation Project was held yesterday morning at the Mingala Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw in a hybrid format. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Aung Zeya, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia, Minister-Counsellor Dr Zheng Zhihong, Directors-General from the Department of Advanced Science and Technology and other departments, Rectors, the Vice-Chairman and Deputy Directors-General of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation National Coordination Unit (Myanmar) and other invitees.
At the event, the deputy minister said that the project is the second phase initiative, which will continue to be implemented based on the successful foundations laid by the first phase in order to further enhance cooperation and exchanges aimed at achieving balanced development in the science and technology sector across the Mekong region. He added that priority will be given to establishing sustainable knowledge-sharing mechanisms that can be continuously utilized to promote the development of human resources and technological innovation to keep pace with the world, ensure sustainable regional development, and enable students and youths to scientifically address global and regional challenges. Therefore, the outcomes of the project will become a model for science and technology universities in the region.
Chinese Ambassador Ms Ma Jia remarked, and the vice-chairperson of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation National Coordination Unit (Myanmar) made a greeting speech.
During the discussion at noon, the rector of the Mandalay Technological University and the pro-rector of the Kunming University of Science and Technology and project members virtually discussed the reviews for the first phase of the project and work plans for the second phase until 2027.
