The National Defence and Security Council released Order 5-9/2026 yesterday to pardon 2,825 male and female prisoners who face punishment, from their respective prisons, jails and camps under the Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401 (1) in commemoration of Peasants’ Day, and to bring peace of mind to the public on the full moon day of Taboung, on humanitarian considerations, and bilateral relations. Among them, 933 prisoners, including four foreigners and four Bengalis, were released from Insein Prison in Yangon.

Yangon Region Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Win Tint and relevant officials delivered advice to the 611 male and 314 female prisoners, including four foreigners and four Bengalis, at the gymnasium of Insein Prison yesterday morning. The prisoners were transported by YBS buses to specific townships of the region, and the four foreigners and four Bengalis were expelled from the country.

Moreover, the hearings in the suits of those prosecuted under Sections 50 (J) and 52 (A) were also withdrawn, and the relatives of the released political prisoners welcomed them in front of Insein Prison.

The National Defence and Security Council granted pardons to 1,079 prisoners from Insein Prison for the first time on 12 February 2021, whereas 621 prisoners including those under 505-A for second time, 322 prisoners including those under 505-A for third time, 668 prisoners including 505-A for the fourth, 844 prisoners for the fifth, 1,477 prisoners for the sixth, 1,167 prisoners for the seventh, 90 prisoners for the eighth, 160 prisoners for the ninth, 985 prisoners including foreigners for the tenth, 1,400 prisoners including foreigners for the eleventh, 2,497 prisoners including foreigners for the twelfth, 6,186 prisoners including foreigners on 2026 Independence Day and 2,825 prisoners on Peasants’ Day (full moon day of Taboung).
