Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing received Ms Gwyn Lewis, United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim for Myanmar, and her delegation yesterday morning at the reception hall of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, they discussed the Ministry’s ongoing arrangements to facilitate entry visas and stay permits for UN agencies operating in Myanmar, the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) being implemented between the Ministry, UNDP, and UNHCR to carry out the repatriation process for displaced persons from Rakhine State, and the temporary residence permission in Yangon granted to UN and INGO staff members and their families from Rakhine State, in line with the coordination of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO).

They also exchanged views openly and cordially on the continued collaboration between the Ministry and various UN agencies, including UNFPA, which has long been cooperating with the Ministry on population and development activities, and on prospects for enhanced cooperation with other UN organisations operating in Myanmar.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Minister U Htay Hlaing, Permanent Secretary U Min Hein, Director-General of the Department of Immigration U Ye Tun Oo, and other responsible officials.
