UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.

On 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8 October, the combined teams impounded illegal teak and timbers worth K3.968 million in Lewe Township, illegal teak and timbers worth K582,480 in Toungoo Township and an unregistered vehicle worth K15 million in Amarapura Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export/Import Law.

On 9 October, the on-duty teams seized an unregistered vehicle and two unregistered motorbikes worth K15 million in Mawlamyine, Bilin and Thanbyuzayat townships, a Toyota HiAce worth K15 million carrying foodstuff valued at K5.88 million without official documents in Kyaikmaraw Township. The action was taken under the Export/ Import Law and Customs procedures.

Similarly, the on-duty teams nabbed illegal timber worth K1.505 million in Taikkyi Township, an unregistered vehicle worth K15 million at the Nyaungkhashay permanent checkpoint and industrial materials worth K9.014 million without official documents from a container at the Myanmar Industrial Port. The action was conducted under the Export/Import Law and Customs procedures on 2, 8 and 9 October.

On 9 October, the combined team under the Bago Region illegal trade eradication task force impounded illegal timbers worth K340,992 in DaikU Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

Similarly, the on-duty team under the Mandalay Region task force nabbed foodstuff worth K26.052 million without official documents from a Mitsubishi Canter Truck worth K60 million at the Myitnge checkpoint in Mandalay on 6 October. The action was conducted under the Customs procedures.

On 7, 8 and 9 October, the on-duty teams under the Yangon Region task force seized 11 unregistered motorbikes worth K3.75 million in Botahtaung, Shwepyitha, Mingaladon, Dawbon, Thakayta, Mingala Taungnyunt, Kamayut and Pazundaung townships. The action was taken under the Export/ Import Law.

Similarly, the on-duty teams from Customs Department seized consumer goods and foodstuff worth K17.630 million without official documents and two vehicles worth K50 million at the Nyaungkhashay permanent checkpoint on 9 October and industrial materials worth K2.246 billion without official documents and a vessel worth K870 million at the Thakayta Port. The action was conducted under Customs procedures on 10 October.

The Steering Committee reported 39 arrests on 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 October, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K3.353 billion.
