MYANMAR’S annual rubber export bags US$480 million, according to the Department of Agriculture.

China accounts for 75 per cent of Myanmar’s rubber exports, and the remaining is sent to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea and Japan.

Rubber is primarily grown in Mon State, followed by Taninthayi Region and Kayin State. It can also be found in other regions and states. Out of one million growing acres, a total of 950,000 acres are capable of producing rubber.

Myanmar’s annual rubber output is estimated at 400,000 tonnes. Of them, over 100,000 tonnes are exported. Myanmar’s rubber export is aimed to reach 300,000 tonnes in the 2025-2026 financial year.

The Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation has been implementing a programme to replace old rubber trees with pedigree rubber plants, producing skilled tappers to ensure maximum yield and tree health, and rubber research and technology development. The department will control inferior-grade rubber distribution in the market that can harm the rubber industry.

Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, gave a remark during a meeting with officials concerned and locals in Dawei city, Taninthayi Region, on 18 September that Myanmar rubber raw materials are required to enhance property. Value-added processing will help them penetrate more foreign markets and earn higher prices. Manufacturing tyres, related goods and consumer goods beyond raw materials will improve the market.
