UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.

From 26 to 30 September, the combined teams impounded illegal timber worth K3.535 million in Dekkhinathiri, Ottarathiri, Lewe and Pyinmana townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

On 2 October, the combined on-duty teams seized foodstuff worth K1.47 million without official documents, a Toyota Hilux pick up (approximately K15 million) carrying foodstuffs valued at K7.8 million without official documents in Bago Township and a Nissan Condor truck (estimated valued at K30 million) carrying foodstuffs valued at K8.375 million without official documents at the Thanetpin detour. The action was conducted under Customs procedures.

Similarly, on 1 and 2 October and 30 September, the on-duty teams nabbed four vehicles (approximately K124 million) carrying consumer goods, foodstuff and industrial material worth K42.450 million without official documents at the Yadanabon bridge combined checkpoint, two unregistered vehicles and nine unregistered motorbikes (estimated value of K45 million) in Bilin, Kyaikto, Mawlamyine, Paung, Chaungzon, Theinzayet and Thanbyuzayat townships, four unregistered motorbikes worth K720,000 in Pazundaung, Thakayta and Dawbon Townships and a Multi light truck (approximately K15 million) carrying illegal timbers valued at K412,760 near No 2 highway in Dagon Myothit (South) Township. The action was conducted under the Export/Import Law and the Forest Law.

The Steering Committee reported 37 arrests on the four days 26, 27, 28 and 30 September and 1 and 2 October, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K293.763 million.
