The World First Aid Day 2025 commemoration ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Myanmar Red Cross Society headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw. The event was attended by Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win, Deputy Minister Dr Aye Tun, directors-general, the president, vice-president, and executive officers of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, members of the Red Cross Central Council, chairpersons and officials of social organizations, representatives from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, partner Red Cross societies, and Red Cross volunteers.

At the ceremony, the Union minister stated that the theme of World First Aid Day 2025 is “First Aid and Climate Change”. The theme highlights the importance of providing first aid and responding to injuries that may occur during natural disasters or extreme weather events. He emphasized that first aid is a crucial part of pre-hospital care, helping patients during transport to the hospital, preventing further injury, and increasing their chances of survival. The Myanmar Red Cross Society not only provides first aid as a first responder in various situations but also assists individuals in need of social support, responds to natural disasters, organizes blood donation drives, operates emergency ambulance services, supports COVID-19 prevention and control, and participates in disaster preparedness and response efforts, including responses to Typhoon Yagi and the Mandalay earthquake.

The Union minister further addressed that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the International Red Cross societies, steps have been taken to facilitate the flow of international aid to people affected by natural disasters. He emphasized that cooperation with the Ministry of Health is essential to ensure that assistance reaches those in genuine need, and he encouraged Red Cross members to make the first aid skills they have mastered accessible to the public. On the occasion of World First Aid Day 2025, he expressed his hope that officials at all levels and Red Cross volunteers will continue to carry out social and charitable work for the benefit of the country and its people.

Following this, President Dr Myo Nyunt of the Myanmar Red Cross Society explained the objectives of the World First Aid Day celebration. Ms Nadia Khoury, Resident Representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Myanmar, and Mr Xavier Macquerh, Deputy Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Myanmar, delivered speeches and presented a video highlighting first aid activities.

Finally, the Union minister presented the First Aid Competition Award and visited the First Aid Day commemorative exhibition, which included a demonstration of the Roam Water Filter.
