UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steer­ing Committee, efforts to com­bat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.

From 1 to 3 September, the combined teams impounded two unregistered vehicles and four unregistered motorbikes valued at K21.95 million in Mogaung and Mohnyin townships, illegal fuel oil and diesel worth K4.2 million in Mohnyin Township, foodstuff worth K48.552 million without official documents in Mawlamyine Township, an un­registered vehicle and 10 un­registered motorbikes valued at K39 million in Mawlamyine and Thaton districts and three trucks (approximately K150 mil­lion) carrying consumer goods worth K507.235 million without official documents in Ayethaya. The action was conducted un­der the Export/Import Law and Customs procedures.

On 25 August and 3 Septem­ber, the combined on-duty teams seized illegal hardwood and oth­er timbers worth K1.108 million in Kanbalu Township, consumer goods valued at K60.94 million without official documents at the Yadanabon bridge com­bined checkpoint, consumer goods valued at K25.605 million without official documents in Sagaing Township, an unregis­tered vehicle (estimated value of K60 million) at the jetty under the Yadanabon bridge and ille­gal teaks and hardwoods val­ued at K9.012 million in Toun­goo and Nyaunglebin districts. The action was taken under the Export/Import Law, the Forest Law, and Customs procedures.

Similarly, on 1 and 2 Sep­tember, the on-duty teams nabbed two vehicles (estimat­ed value of K52 million) carry­ing foodstuffs and consumer goods worth K15.214 million without official documents at the Kywetatson checkpoint, two trucks (estimated value of K60 million) carrying foodstuffs and consumer goods valued at K11.374 million without official documents at the Yadanabon bridge combined checkpoint and three unregistered vehicles and two unregistered motorbikes worth K30 million in Kamayut, North Okkalapa, Dagon Myothit (North), Mingala Taungnyunt and Pazundaung townships and a truck (approximately K35,825 million) carrying illegal teaks in Thanlyin Township. The ac­tion was conducted under the Export/Import Law, the Forest Law, and Customs procedures.

On 2 September, the com­bined on-duty teams confiscated foodstuffs valued at K480 million that were smuggled and piled up in the compound in Tachil­ek Township, a Mitsubishi Fuso bus (approximately K40 million) carrying foodstuffs worth K13.6 million without official docu­ments at the Nyaungkhashay permanent checkpoint, a KT.188 motorboat worth K10 million carrying industrial materials at the Tawwin jetty in Kaw­thoung Township, six vehicles with four trailers (estimated value of K344 million) carrying consumer goods and foodstuffs worth K1.019 billion in Ywan­gan district and a MV Pyi Hein (approximately K800 million), travelling from Kawthoung to Yangon, carrying industrial ma­terials and foodstuffs valued at K335.461 million at the Mottama Port in Hlinethaya Township. The action was carried out as per Customs procedure.

The Steering Committee reported 85 arrests on the four days, 25 August, 1, 2 and 3 Sep­tember, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K4.303 billion.
