After 10 days of its counter-terrorism operation that began on 28 August, Tatmadaw recaptured the entire Kawkareik–Thingan Nyinnaung–Myawady Asian Highway at 1 pm yesterday.
This highway is a major trade route between Thailand and Myanmar. The area had been temporarily controlled by KNU terrorists. Tatmadaw had also reopened the Kyondoe–Kawkareik route on 24 July after seizing it from KNU terrorists.
In the efforts to regain control of the Kawkareik–Thingan Nyinnaung–Myawady Asian Highway and the town of Thingan Nyinnaung, which was briefly under KNU control, there were 382 major and minor clashes. Following the operation, 63 bodies, 57 assorted arms, and related equipment were seized from the terrorists. Some Tatmadaw officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country, while others were injured.
Tatmadaw columns will continue conducting security operations along the highway to ensure that border trade resumes as soon as possible and that residents, tourists, freight vehicles, and passenger vehicles can travel safely and smoothly along the route.
