A total of 113,000 bottles of indelible ink supported by the Japanese government and its people arrived in Yangon by a special flight from Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia yesterday afternoon.

The assistance was given under the ‘Election Assistance Programme’ of the Japanese government to Myanmar.

On behalf of Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr Takimi Kazuyuki, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan, handed over the bottles to U Kyi Myint, Chairperson of Yangon Region Election Sub-Commission at the airport. Funded by the Japanese government and its people, the UNDP will organize the three flights for transporting the electoral ink bottles. Japanese Ambassador Mr Ichiro Maruyama said that Japan also supplied the indelible ink bottles in 2015 General Election in Myanmar, the first batch of bottles this year were worth about US$1.7 million, and their assistance would be useful for free and fair elections. The Japanese Embassy in Yangon has also issued a statement that the upcoming General Election on 8 November is a milestone in Myanmar’s progress in the democratization process; the Government of Japan will fully support Myanmar’s democratic nation-building and will dispatch an Election Observation Mission headed by Mr Yohei SASAKAWA, the Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for National Reconciliation in Myanmar, and will also support the conduct of free and fair election through this grant project.
