Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force Leader of Myanmar, Dr Wah Wah Maung, attended the 2nd ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force Meeting, which was held virtually on 11 June 2025.
The meeting discussed the outcomes of the latest high-level meetings, including the 46th ASEAN Summit, the 25th ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting, the Special ASEAN Economic Ministers and Dialogue Partners Consultations, the development of the ASEAN Integration Report in response to emerging geoeconomics challenges and the plans of the Task Force.
The deputy minister highlighted the importance of resilience and inclusive economic integration in responding to the geoeconomic challenges. She also pointed out that to increase the intra-ASEAN trade and to prioritize the trade diversion as well as investment diversion to reduce the impacts of the trade tension. The deputy minister underscored the necessity of linking the new initiatives with ASEAN’s priorities as well as the long-term measures with the ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan 2026-2030, and reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to collaborate with other ASEAN Member States in drafting the ASEAN Integration Report (AIR).
The ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force was established based on the consensus of the Special ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting, which was held virtually on 10 April 2025 to provide real-time analysis, strategic foresight, to assess the potential benefits and vulnerability arising from current global trade changes, and provide actionable policy recommendations to the ASEAN Economic Ministers. The Task Force is composed of two representatives from each member state, at the deputy minister level and a senior economic expert level.
