UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat illicit trade continue effectively under the law.
On 9 and 11 May, combined teams seized illegal timber weighing 1.394 tonnes (worth K119,884) in Taungdwingyi Township, three unregistered vehicles (worth approximately K46 million) near the Yadanabon Bridge combined checkpoint in Sagaing Township, and two unregistered vehicles (worth approximately K13 million) in Htantabin and Insein Townships. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export-Import Law.
Additionally, on 11 and 12 May, a combined on-duty team seized two trucks (estimated value of K70 million) carrying seven types of industrial materials valued at K124.5 million without official documents within the compound of the Yethaya temporary checkpoint. They also seized 2.609 tonnes of illegal teak, 0.936 tonne of illegal hardwood, and one tonne of other timbers (worth about K2.73 million) in Bago and Nyaunglebin Districts. The action was conducted under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 13 arrests on 9, 11, and 12 May, confiscating illegal goods worth approximately K256 million. — MNA/MKKS
