A Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, attended the opening ceremony of the China-Myanmar Cultural Exchange Week and the 4th Twin City Media Forum, held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, from 11 to 15 November.

The delegation, accompanied by Myanmar Ambassador to China U Tin Maung Swe, Consul-General U Thwin Htet Lin in Yunnan Province, and other officials, continued their study tour on 13 November. On 14 November, they visited several sites, including a media centre, a traditional Chuxiong Yi ethnic knitting business, in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture and the Tianchi Mountain Lake Recreation Beach in Kunming City. In the afternoon, the Union Minister and his team visited the Chuxiong-Yi Ethnic Traditional Digital Embroidery Industry Centre in Chuxiong. The ethnic group, which started with 13 workshops in 2022, has grown to more than 500 workshops this year, significantly increasing its income. Through market promotion, they have expanded their reach from Shanghai and Beijing to exhibitions in Paris and Milan, showcasing their embroidery styles, clothing types, and designs. The delegation toured the exhibition, which featured designs, clothing, archival photos, and practical knitting demonstrations.

Afterwards, indigenous Chuxiong Yi ethnic models wore their traditional and innovative knitted dresses in a fashion show. During the event, the Myanmar Radio and Television group performed the song “Malay Lat Khat Than”, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture’s traditional choral dance group performed the “Welcome to Mandala Land” song.

Tianchi Mountain Lake, known as “the shining pearl buried in the highlands”, was constructed in imitation of the lake at the Summer Palace in Beijing. The lake stretches 40 kilometres from north to south and is 12.5 kilometres wide. As it is located at 1,886 metres above sea level, it is divided into two parts by two dams. Like other lakes in Yunnan Province, it plays a vital role in maintaining biodiversity.

Yesterday afternoon, the Union minister and the delegation left Kunming by air and arrived back in Yangon in the evening.
