A model village project was officially launched in Ohnpinsu Village, Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Region, yesterday morning.

This initiative, supported by the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation, aims to improve the lives of residents in the delta region by reducing poverty. Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, regional government ministers, officials from the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar, and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.

The Union minister emphasized the importance of bridging the development gap between urban and rural areas at the ceremony. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure balanced development across the country. The Union minister mentioned that 15 projects, including the Ohnpinsu Village project, are being implemented with support from the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation special fund. These projects aim to reduce poverty at the village level and promote comprehensive development. He also noted the success of these initiatives, citing positive outcomes from similar projects, such as small-scale solar power systems and water supply projects.

The first secretary of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar outlined the five-year business plans for the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, emphasizing cooperation and exchange with Myanmar in the area of poverty alleviation. The regional chief minister also discussed the essential factors for the successful implementation and longterm sustainability of these projects. Officials reviewed the project to establish a model village for poverty reduction among the Mekong-Lancang countries, summarizing its objectives and planned activities.

Furthermore, the Union minister and his team inspected the completion of the upgrading work on the inter-village road between Ngapyawkhyun village and Khattiya village, converting it to a concrete road, and discussed the necessary issues.
