UNION Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, who is also chairman of the Myanmar Libraries Cooperation Development Committee, inspected libraries in Yangon and Bago regions, together with Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and Bago Region Social Affairs Minister U Myo Aung.
The Union minister and party first visited Hmawby Saya Thein Library in Hmawby township in Yangon. They met town elders and library supervisory committee members to discuss library process development and proper measures to develop the reading habits of youths.
He donated K2 million and books and publications for the library. The library was constructed in honour of Sayagyi Hmawby Saya Thein, with the capital of Myanmar Library Foundation and cash donations from town elders, totalling K35.9 million, in 2013.
The Union minister and party also attended the opening ceremony of Pyanya Alin Library in Ingalar ward of Taikkyi township.
Speaking at the event, the Union Minister highlighted the establishment of libraries to expand the knowledge of the public, whereas the understanding of people plays a vital role in the development of a nation, directives of the State of the Head regarding reading habits, and urged the officials to make efforts for library development.
The Yangon Region chief minister then explained library development measures and support of the regional government.
The Union minister, Yangon Region Library Supervisory Committee and locals donated cash, books and publications for the library.
On arrival at the Kaung Thant Library in Okkan, the Union Minister met with library committee members and town elders and donated cash, books and publications after giving proper instructions.
The Union minister, accompanied by Bago Region Social Minister U Myo Aung, proceeded to Sayagyi P Moe Nin Library in Thonze. During the visit, the Union minister met library committee members and town elders and highlighted the role of libraries. They also donated cash, books and publications.
Ywama village in Thonze is a native of Sayagyi P Moe Nin, and the library was constructed in October 2015 in Bo Sein Hman Park of Thonze, honouring Sayagyi P Moe Nin.
The Union minister also met the staff of the Information and Public Relations Department at the Thayawady District office. He called for the presentation of accurate and true information via various media outlets for the public. He provided cash assistance to the staff.
