EFFORTS to combat illegal trade, supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, are being carried out effectively in accordance with the law. On 8 October, joint teams under the supervision of the Customs Department seized a Yutong bus (worth approximately K70 million) carrying foodstuffs and consumer goods valued at K6.9 million, without proper documentation, at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint. Additionally, two kinds of industrial materials, valued at K99.392 million, were seized from six containers at Myanmar Industrial Port, and another two types of industrial materials worth K180.332 million were found in 10 containers at the Asia World Port Terminal. The action was taken under Customs procedures.

In separate operations, teams from the Yangon and Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Forces inspected and seized an unregistered Honda Insight (worth K4 million) in Hlinethaya (East) Township, along with three vehicles transporting industrial materials (valued at K16.51 million) near the 21 Milepost on the PyinOoLwin-Mandalay Road.

Similarly, in Taninthayi Region, two trucks (estimated value K30 million) carrying industrial materials and foodstuffs worth K38.585 million without proper documentation were seized at the Hintha roundabout checkpoint and Minywa village. The action was taken under the Export-Import Law and Customs procedures.

On 9 October, a further 1.99 tonnes of illegal teak, valued at approximately K1.75 million, was confiscated in Bago and Pyay Districts under the Forest Law. In total, the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 19 arrests on 8 and 9 October, with the value of illegal goods seized amounting to approximately K554.47 million.
