Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, who is also National Disaster Management Committee Vice-Chair 1, arrived at Mawlamyine in Mon State by flight yesterday.

He first met the staff of relevent departments at the meeting hall of the state government office and went to relief camps in Hpa-an of Kayin State. He comforted the flood-hit people and provided them with relief items.

He presided over the natural disaster-related coordination meeting at Pyidaungsu Yeiktha in Hpa-an, and Kayin State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo reported on the opening of relief camps, destructions, temporary closure of schools and plans for reopening, donations for flood victims, monsoon paddy fields inundated in floods and future work plans.

The Union minister and party also inspected cleanliness measures along the strand road of Hpa-an. They provided foodstuffs to members of Tatmadaw, the police force, the fire brigade, the Red Cross Society, the development committee, and locals who participated in the cleaning process.

Then, the Union minister and party paid homage to Shwe Yin Hmaw Pyi Taw Aye pagoda’s, Aung Chan Thar Buddha statue in Hpa-an and donated K 1 million for the all-round development of the pagoda.

During their arrival at the relief camp that opened in the pagoda compound, they cordially met with the flood victims and donated rice, cooking oil, eggs, and other foodstuffs to 1,439 people from 285 households. They also inspected the healthcare system of the Public Health Department and the cooking processes of the Kayin State Highways Department.

They then checked the cooking processes in the compound of Alinn Taik Library in Hlakamyin Kwatthit and greeted the students and locals who were reading at the library. Then, they donated K 1 million to the librarian.

They met flood victims at the relief camp in the basic education middle school (branch) in Hlakamyin Kwatthit. They donated rice, cooking oil, eggs, instant noodles and other foodstuffs for 637 people from 147 households.

On arrival at the relief camp at No 4 BEHS, Hpa-an, the Union minister and officials donated foodstuffs for 970 people from 219 households.

The Union minister then met staff members of the relevant department at meeting hall 2 of the state government office and urged them to follow the civil service rules, law, rules and ethics.

Afterwards, Kayin State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Min Thu Kyaw reported on security measures, and the Union minister gave proper instructions.
