AS floodwaters recede across multiple regions, including Nay Pyi Taw, concerted efforts are underway to restore normality through essential cleanup measures and healthcare support.
Rescue and recovery measures are actively ongoing in villages and townships stricken by flooding across states and regions, including Nay Pyi Taw. In areas such as Kalaw and Loikaw townships, as well as others, responsible teams have been relocating flood-stricken residents, conducting cleanup activities, and removing debris like tree branches and silt left behind by flash floods.
Locals are also involved in these efforts. Additionally, various government departments, organizations, and donors continue to provide food and monetary donations for those battered by floods.
Yesterday, generous donations of food and clothing worth K209.35 million were made to the Mandalay Region government by well-wishers, with the chief minister accepting the contributions and issuing certificates of appreciation.
Repairs on flooddamaged roads and bridges are ongoing to restore vital infrastructure. According to official reports, as of 7 am yesterday, floods impacted 53 townships across various states and regions, damaging 4,471 homes and submerging 168,704 houses.
The death toll rose to 293 people, with 89 still missing. A total of 425 flood relief camps were established, providing aid to 47,019 families, or 161,592 people. Floods also damaged 113 government buildings, 919 schools, 331 religious structures, some roads, bridges, power lines and telecom towers. Additionally, 129,150 livestock died, and floodwaters submerged an estimated number of 766,586 acres of crops.
