A special MAI flight carrying 25 volunteers who will be assisting in COVID-19 measures for a month in Rakhine State departed from Yangon International Airport for Sittway yesterday.
The volunteer group consists of 18 men and 7 women and they were escorted to the airport by officials from the Yangon Region social welfare office and disaster management department.
These volunteers already have experience with preventing, containing, treating and responding to COVID-19 while volunteering at community-based facility quarantine centers. They have received training from volunteer doctors organized by the National Volunteer Steering Unit.
The government will be taking care of the food, accommodation, travel and health affairs of the volunteers travelling to Rakhine State. They have also received medical examinations from the Ministry of Health and Sports and are reportedly in good health.
