DIRECTOR U Khine Win of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Kachin State) said that a total of 885 foreign tourists visited destinations in Kachin State from January to June 2023. The number of tourists has increased by 429 compared to the same period last year.
The number of homegrown and foreign tourists is increasing year by year as 71,771 tourists visited Kachin State in 2021, 184,111 in 2022, and 70,788 from January to April 2023. The incomes for those years were K1,353.9 million and US$16,635, K3,249.1 million and $47,535, and K1,333 million and $10,785, respectively, he added.
The Kachin State Government is making efforts to develop new destinations in the region and implementing the upgrade of the Myitsone region (the confluence of the Maykha and Malikha rivers) as a tourism icon of Kachin State. They are also coordinating with residents and PutaO District tourism management organizations to make the PutaO region a capital of domestic and foreign tourism since it has many natural beauties, including snow-capped mountains.
For the development of tourism activities in Kachin State, new licences were granted to 167 tourist guides, 61 tourism businesses, and 69 hotels and guesthouses in the financial years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.
