1. These days news of sex abuse against several female government servants in connection with the prospects for promotion is widespread on internet pages. Based on such news, there have been writings and cartoon expressions on the facebook, which is a social media network that affect women’s dignity.
2. Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that all human beings are equal in dignity and rights. Article 12 also states that no one shall be subject to attack on his or her honour and reputation. As Article 2 (d) of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, to which Myanmar is State Party, provides for refraining from engaging in any act (or) practice of discrimination against women, any behaviour, utterances and expressions aimed at harming the dignity of women must be avoided under all circumstances.
3. For these reasons, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission emphatically urges each and every citizen, in act of respect for inherent human rights and human dignity, to refrain from engaging in writings and illustrations that affect women’s dignity and also not to share any similar writings and illustrations of others on the social media network.
