Tatmadaw vessel Thanlwin returned after providing healthcare services to local people in Yangon and Ayeyawady regions.

The Tatmadaw’s special medical team includes doctors, surgeons, and nurses, aboard the Tatmadaw Vessel Thanlwin which have completed a healthcare mission for local people in towns, villages and surrounding areas in Yangon Region’s Cocokyun Township and Ayeyawady Region’s Hainggyikyun Town.

The medical team carried out healthcare services from 18 November to 6 December. The vessel arrived back in Yangon yesterday, docking at the No 2 Naval Jetty (Thilawa), where they were welcomed by Tatmadaw members and families from Thanlyin Station.

The medical team on board the Thanlwin vessel provided services the surrounding areas in Yangon Region’s Cocokyun Township and surrounding villages of Hainggyikyun, Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyawady Region.

Throughout this mission, the team treated a total of 6,836 people including 1,831 with general diseases, 697 surgical patients, 230 obstetric patients, 383 paediatric patients, 1,092 orthopaedic patients, 400 ENT patients, 1,295 ophthalmology patients and 944 dental patients. Among them, 88 underwent surgeries for general conditions and 145 received eye surgeries on board the vessel.

In turn, 160 patients received X-ray tests, 832 were examined using ultrasound, 634 underwent ECG heart tests and 466 had laboratory tests. The medical team also successfully assisted in the delivery of five pregnant women, while three individuals were referred to local Tatmadaw and people’s hospitals for further treatment.

This mission marks its 19th trip, during which 170,484 people received healthcare services. During these missions, the team has also helped deliver 27 babies safely.
