THE 6th Myanmar International Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference, 2020 was opened at Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel in Yangon yesterday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Health Dr. Myint Htwe said the rate of gastroenterology and hepatology is rising in Myanmar, causing social problems and premature deaths. At this conference, international and local medical professionals will share knowledge and experiences in gastroenterology and hepatology and seek ways to promote skill in treatment.

He said both the treatment and control of the gastroenterology and hepatology are important. The Ministry of Health is administering children to hepatitis B vaccine 24 hours after birth as the drug can also prevent liver cancer. The ministry is giving vaccine on acute bowel disorder to children in the whole country in this month. The Union Minister lauded Myanmar Medical Association (MMA) for its endeavours for professional development and courses through the formation of Myanmar Gastroenterology and Hepatology Association. The Union Minister said in addition to doctors, nurses also have an important role in providing gastroenterology and hepatology treatment. Topics to be discussed at the conference will be much supportive for adopting future strategies and work programs. The Ministry has allotted Ks six billion for research program during the period from 2016 to April this year. He urged the participants to improve networks between them and collectively conduct research on therapies.

Chairman of Myanmar Gastroenterology and Hepatology Team Professor Dr. Thein Myint and Chairwoman of the Conference Organizing Committee Professor Dr. Nwe Ni extended greetings.

Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe, Professor Dr. Thein Myint and Professor Dr. Nwe Ni formally inaugurated the conference. About 400 experts from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Japan, South Korea, India, the United States, Russia, Netherlands, Myanmar and Hong Kong special administrative region would take part in the conference.
