Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in the People’s Republic of China on his working visit at the invitation of President Mr Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China, held a meeting with the President of the People’s Republic of China at the Tianjin Guest House in Tianjin at 5 pm Chinese standard time yesterday.

The President of the People’s Republic of China cordially welcomed the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and had documentary photos taken.

Also, present at the meeting were Commision Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Commission member and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Commission member and Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin, Union Ministers Dr Wah Wah Maung, U Min Naung and U Chit Swe, Ambassador of Myanmar to the People’s Republic of China U Tin Maung Swe, deputy ministers and officials. The Chinese President was accompanied by Mr Wang Yi, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, officials from the government of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Ma Jia, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, and officials.

At the meeting, President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Xi Jinping, expressed thanks for the attendance of the high-level Myanmar delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 and the parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Myanmar is a dialogue partner of the SCO and participated in the Anti-Fascist War. China and Myanmar are neighbouring countries in a strong Swemyo Pauk-Phaw relationship. China always stands with Myanmar and supports the development and stability of Myanmar. China supports the political system of Myanmar and firmly stands with Myanmar for the development of its people and the construction of a peaceful and prosperous community sharing the same fortune between the two countries. He pledged that China will uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence between countries.

In his response, the Senior General said that Myanmar launched its anti-Fascist movement on 27 March 1945. The Armed Forces Day of Myanmar Tatmadaw was designated as 27 March, the day marking the resistance against fascism. The Armed Forces Day was observed for its 80th anniversary on 27 March 2025. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit is reliable for the enhancement of international cooperation. Myanmar became a dialogue partner of the SCO in May 2023 and has been attending the summits from then on. The Senior General requested that China recommend that Myanmar become a member of the SCO. The Senior General expressed his firm belief that this meeting will further promote the good relationship between the two countries.

They cordially widely discussed cooperation in peace processes of Myanmar, promotion of trade, enhancement of implementing the OBOR project and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC), efficient utilization of natural resources, giving aid to Myanmar related to the devastating Mandalay earthquake, placing special emphasis on support and standing of China with Myanmar in the international landscape, further enhancement of relationship between the two countries, efforts to hold a multiparty democratic general eleciton on 28 December in Myanmar, and invitation to international electoral observation groups to Myanmar.

The Chinese President expressed his wide scope of discussions on matters for continued implementation, which were agreed upon during the meeting between the Chinese and Myanmar leaders in Moscow in May 2025, opposing external interference in Myanmar’s politics, promotion of China-Myanmar strategic cooperation, positive standing of China to ensure peace and stability of Myanmar and further action plans, and standing of Myanmar with prestige and integrity in the international landscape and relations with regional organizations.

They also reciprocally discussed support of China for Myanmar’s preparations to hold the multiparty democratic general election and further measures to be taken through the diplomatic channel, a pledge to recommend Myanmar to become an SCO member country, and further discussions between relevant departments for multi-sectoral cooperation between the two countries.
